IPL 2025 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Best Squad List
KL Rahul to return to RCB as the Captain as we look at the IPL 2025 dream squad and players list for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
If there is one team that has the highest fan following but 0 trophies, it is undoubtedly the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It’s been 17 years and counting, but the ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’ RCB team has been devoid of an IPL Trophy every single year. But just like every year, the team will once again enter the battlefield with the hope of getting their hands on the trophy at least once.
If we observe the main reason for RCB’s dismal show, the majority of the blame will be on their squad selection. The team has always invested heavily in the batters, but when it comes to match-winning bowlers, there has been a big gap most of the time. But thankfully the tournament is headed for a Mega Auction, and barring a few players, RCB have the chance to release most of their players.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction will allow the RCB team to revisit their strategy one more time. With a fresh start in mind, the team will first start with the player retentions where they are likely to retain 4-6 players. If a price pool of 130 Cr is given to all Franchises, one can expect 40-50% to be utilized already on the retained players. So, let’s evaluate the dream squad list that RCB can look to build in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
IPL 2025 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Squad List Bifurcation
If we talk about the retained players and RTM players for RCB, we should expect them to retain 6 players. The first retained player shall be Virat Kohli, who remains to be the most celebrated player for RCB. Other than Virat Kohli, the team is likely to retain Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammed Siraj, and Rajat Patidar. These five players give a lot of stability to the RCB team, and have also performed well for them.
In addition, and in all likelihood, we can also expect KL Rahul’s return to his hometown, Bengaluru. The move of KL Rahul to RCB has been on the cards for a while now. Not only does RCB need a Captain but also given KL Rahul’s issues with the franchise in LSG, his move to RCB is logical. So, apart from the above five, expect RCB to retain KL Rahul to make it a total of six retentions.
Overseas Players?
Now, with so many retained players already selected, let’s move on to the Overseas players that RCB can think of purchasing. With two Overseas players already retained, the team will be looking for someone like Mitchell Starc, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Will Jacks to fill the top 5 positions. It will be a great homecoming for Hasaranga and Starc if RCB is able to purchase these players.
Other than these five overseas players, RCB will then look for backups. Among the backups, the ones RCB will be happy to onboard are Mathew Wade as a backup finisher, Gerald Coetzee as a backup to Mitchell Starc, and Chris Woakes as the backup to Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell. RCB may not spend much on backups, hence these five fit the bill perfectly.
Moving on, we now have 12 good players already selected. The next target must be to have more solid players that can be a part of the playing 11, and for that, RCB will have to spend more on bowlers. At the moment there’s only Mohammed Siraj among Indian bowlers. So, RCB will be really happy to be back Yuzvendra Chahal, their favourite spinner once and Harshal Patel, their favourite pacer once. Both will be great additions to the team, and fortunately, they shouldn’t cost them much too.
RCB to bring back Old Foes?
Apart from Yuzi Chahal and Harshal Patel, the team will most likely like to purchase the existing players like Suyash Prabudessai, Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Akash Deep, and Swapnil Singh. All six players played a key role for RCB in the 2022-24 cycle. With the addition of these six players, RCB will be able to form a solid playing 11, and also have great backups in the process.
For the remaining slot, the team will be eager to bring back Devdutt Padikkal and Manish Pandey among the batters, Shubham Dubey, Vidhwath Kaperappa and Shreyas Gopal among the bowlers. All these four players were either previously associated with Karnataka or RCB. With the addition of these players to the RCB team, their bench strength will definitely get better.
