India vs South Africa 2024 T20 Series Confirmed Playing 11

Suryakumar Yadav to lead a new-looking squad in our analysis for the playing 11 for India vs New South Africa 2024 T20 series.

It feels like yesterday when India defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. It was the Suryakumar Yadav catch that turned the tables for Team India, and now after 4 months, a young team under Suryakumar Yadav will battle it out against South Africa in a 4-match T20 series. Yes, India will be touring South India starting November 8 for a 4-match Bilateral T20 series.

While Ideally, the excitement for this format should always be high, Team India are currently experiencing the lowest point in their Cricketing career. For the first time in history, India have been whitewashed at home in a 3-match Test Series. It has been an epic breakdown for the Indian team, who even in their worst nightmare wouldn’t have thought of getting whitewashed against a side that has poor Away records.

But, it’s a big reality check for the Indian players that their inability to either play good spin or swing in the longest format of the game. Nevertheless, the eyes will be on the T20 team that will begin a not-so-important and filler series before we shift our focus on the senior Indian team that will face their toughest WTC cycle battle against Australia. So, here’s the official squad and strongest playing 11 for both teams.

If we observe the Indian team’s squad, the team made a lot of changes from the one that played vs Bangladesh. While the Test team players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, etc., continue to remain absent, the team added new players in the form of Ramandeep Singh, Tilak Varma, Avesh Khan, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yash Dayal. The players who have been left out due to injuries include Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, and Mayank Yadav. Whereas others like Nitish, Sundar, and Harshit are preferred for the Australia Test series.

India vs South Africa 2024 T20 Playing 11 Explained:

With many players absent, the playing 11 for the Indian team shall be interesting. Starting with the openers, India should continue with the same opening combination that played against Bangladesh. With only two designated openers present in the squad, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson should continue to open in all four matches of the T20 series. Other than these two, there are technically no openers in the team.

Coming to the middle-order, India will be without Riyan Parag. So, in Riyan’s absence, India will look at playing Tilak Varma in the middle-order. Aside from Tilak, Suryakumar Yadav should continue to play at the number 3 position, and Rinku Singh at number 4 or 5. With a solid middle-order, the finishing duties shall rely on two all-rounders, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.

In addition to these, India should mostly also play Ramandeep Singh as a finisher and a floater. Ramandeep Singh, who is technically a medium-pace all-rounder can hit the ball really well. He was also retained by the KKR team recently for IPL 2025. Overall, expect India to play Ramandeep as a floater in the batting, and also use him for a couple of overs in the middle overs.

Talking about the bowlers, India will go ahead with 3 pacers and 3 spin combination in addition to Ramandeep Singh’s medium pace. From the pacers, India will see Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan leading the bowling with support from Hardik Pandya and Ramandeep Singh. Whereas the spin department should be led by Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel with support from Abhishek Sharma, if required.
