IPL 2025 Best Squad Players List for Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
MS Dhoni as uncapped player as we look at the strongest squad and players list for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025.
The Men in Yellow, the Chennai Super Kings are one team that would never want a Mega Auction to happen. Such is the culture of this team that they try to retain the maximum number of players that they invest in. Except for a Mega Auction, if you take any year in the last 5-10 years, you will see the team has retained the maximum of players with a focus on culture building via trust.
But come to Mega Auction 2025, things will once again change for Chennai Super Kings. Given the retention rules which are still not officially out, a team will be allowed to retain 4 to 6 players in general ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction. With such retentions allowed, Chennai Super Kings will once again focus on retaining quality players from their existing squad.
With 4 to 6 retentions allowed Chennai Super Kings would like to hire as many players as possible from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. So, let us consider a scenario where Chennai Super Kings are given the freedom to choose the players of their choice, what is the strongest squad list that they will build from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction? Well, let’s find out in this article.
IPL 2025 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Squad List Bifurcation
If we talk about the top 6 retained players, CSK will look to retain Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni as a surprised uncapped player (As per talks about bringing uncapped player rule for anyone who hasn’t played International cricket for more than 5 years), Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, and Devonw Conway. These are the best six options available in front of CSK, and given an option they will want to retain these players.
From the Category A players whom CSK may not be able to retain but would definitely like to hire in the Auction are Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh, Maheesh Theekshana, and Mustafizur Rahman. These six players have been regularly playing for CSK, and have done well as well. Hence, CSK will want to get them at any cost as possible.
From Category B players who are a part of the current squad, and have been nurtured at CSK, they will be under the management’s radar during the IPL 2025 Auction. These players are Sameer Rizwi, Shaikh Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu, Mukesh Choudhary, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and Prashant Solanki. CSK have nurtured these players, and given their potential, CSK would want to hire them in the squad at a low price, if possible.
Players that CSK will Mostly Release
With 18 players already under CSK’s radar already for IPL 2025, who will also form a strong playing 11, CSK do have a few players who do not add a lot of value in the side, or are a miss fit. Among the senior ones that CSK shall let go are Ajinkya Rahane, who might as well retire from the format, Deepak Chahar, their worst value for money player, Shardul Thakur, who is devoid of opportunities at CSK being a misfit, Devon Conway, and Moeen Ali.
New Players that CSK will Add
Now, the team already looks good if 18 of the existing 25 players are a part of the squad in IPL 2025. CSK team needs backup wicket-keepers to fill the gaps that they may want to eliminate. From the Overseas options, Josh Inglis will be a good fit for the finisher role in case CSK are without Devon Conway and MS Dhoni. For the Indian options, CSK will look at their former wicket-keeper N. Jagadeesan, and an extra backup option Vishnu Vinod.
From the batting perspective, CSK are a little thin with a major focus on Ruturaj Gaikwad. The CSK team need a replacement for Ajinkya Rahane, and from the probables, Shahrukh Khan, a Tamilnadu Player will be a good fit for the middle-order role. In addition, CSK may look at another Tamil player Sanjay Yadav, who is known for his aggressive batting.
With Daryl Mitchell not there, another similar player who can add more value to CSK is Aiden Markram. Markram’s batting style will suit CSK a lot, Also, is doesn’t look likely Markram will be retained by SRH. In that scenario, CSK can try to get him in the Auction. Other than these, CSK will be very happy if they are able to get back Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin may not get retained, and being a match-winner for them in the past, Ash will be a great addition.
