Only a few weeks left before the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2024, and all eyes will be on the ODI World Cup champions and finalists, India and Australia. Needless to say, Australia have one of the Strongest squads on paper for the tournament. Alongside Australia, if there are any teams that can challenge this team, it is India and England.

Talking about India vs Australia, the rivalry does go to the 2007 T20 World Cup where India defeated Australia in the semi-finals, but it is the recent two tournaments where Australia have had the upper hand. Be it the 2023 WTC final or the 2023 ODI World Cup, Australia were able to successfully defeat India.

Both Teams have already announced their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, and honestly, both Teams look pretty strong on paper. But if we have to rate the squads in different categories, which team will stand out? Well, let’s look at the rating of the India vs Australia squad list for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Australia: Ashton Agar, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis & Mitchell Marsh

Talking about all-rounders, this is an area where Australia have a better grip as compared to India with a rating of 8.05 as compared to India’s 7.75. For India, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the leading all-rounders with support from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube. While all can bat and bowl, their current form and ability to finish matches aren’t so good as compared to what they were a few years back.

For Australia, there are 5 all-rounders in their squad. If we look at their options, there is quality as well as quantity. While Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are the leading all-rounders for Australia, there are Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, and Ashton Agar as key backups. So, comparing the All-rounders, Australia does feel slightly stronger.

Comparing the pacers, this goes neck-and-neck with Australia being slightly better in this department with a rating of 8.2 as compared to India’s 8.1. For India, Jasprit Bumrah remains the standout pacer, but apart from him, there is no reliable pacer with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube – all decent pace options.

Coming to Australia, they have a fantastic trio of pacers in the form of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins. All three are great options to have when they operate together. But Australia also have good supporting pacers in the form of Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, and Marcus Stoinis. The only drawback is Stoinis, who isn’t the most dependable pacer.

Concluding the analysis, India does seem stronger than Australia when it comes to squad composition. The Indian team is better in terms of batters, wicket-keepers, and spinners. Whereas Australia are better in terms of All-rounders and the Pacers.
