IPL 2025 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Strengths and Weakness
A solid core in focus in our team strengths and weakness of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings will make a fresh attempt this year to secure their sixth IPL title. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction gave an opportunity to the CSK team to revamp their squad. But as always, CSK maintained their strategy to stick to their core of players as they retained some players, and bought the rest in the Mega Auction.
The CSK team will be led by the emerging sensation Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will be leading his second season with the Chennai Super Kings. Ruturaj, who has been under the good books of MS Dhoni looks a very calm and composed leader. He has also led the Indian team on a few occasions, and has led the Indian team to a victory in the Asian games. With CSK having a strong squad this year, Ruturaj has an excellent opportunity to bring glory to his team.
Chennai Super Kings have a strong core of 25 players this year with 7 Overseas players in their squad. The team has some of the superb Indian players in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad himself, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, etc. Whereas among Overseas players, CSK have the likes of Matheesha Pathirana, Devon Conway, Sam Curran, Rachin Ravindra, Noor Ahmad, etc.

CSK Strengths and Weakness for IPL 2025
If we observe the squad of Chennai Super Kings, their main strength is their ability to back players, and get the best out of them. It has been MS Dhoni’s DNA to utilize each player based on his strengths, and with him being there in the leadership core, the DNA continues to glow. So, even as CSk have picked out-of-form players like Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Sam Curran, Ravichandran Ashwin, etc, expect them to flourish under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
CSK’s second biggest strength is their ability to utilize home matches to their liking. Chennai pitches are generally on a slower side, and support spinners a lot. Thankfully, CSK have a lot of quality spinners in their side that can help CSK defend any total for home matches. Similarly, CSK have a lot of consistent batters that can help them post decent totals on home pitches. With such a squad, it looks almost impossible to crack the CSK fortress.
CSK’s third biggest strength is batting and bowling depth in the side. If we observe their first-choice playing 11 as shown below, the impact player rule looks redundant for them as they have all bases covered even without requiring a need for a 12th player. If we see the below squad, they have strong batting till 9, which is excellent. They also have as many as 8 bowling options in the side, which is again amazing. With such a playing 11, CSK have a strong chance to finish in the top 4, if not the top 2.
CSK Best Playing 11 2025 IPL
- Ruturaj Gaikwad (c)
- Rachin Ravindra
- Rahul Tripathi
- Shivam Dube
- Deepak Hooda
- Ravindra Jadeja
- MS Dhoni
- Sam Curran
- Ravichandran Ashwin
- Khaleel Ahmed
- Matheesha Pathirana
- Noor Ahmad (Impact Player)
Finally, talking about CSK’s only weakness, it is their ability to play on sporty or flat decks like Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, or Wankhede. While CSK have a strong squad, they don’t boast of belligerent players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Andre Russell, etc. If at all they play away from home, and the opposite team scores 200-250+, it would be very difficult for CSK to chase such totals, or even defend totals in the same range.
So, that’s about the strengths and weakness of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025.
