With the departure of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the T20I team, India are looking at Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the first-choice openers in the squad. Both Shubman and Jaiswal had also opened against Zimbabwe, and with no other designated opener in the squad, Jaiswal and Gill will be the openers for the entire T20 series.

Coming to the middle-order, we should see a change as compared to what we saw in T20 World Cup 2024. While Rishabh Pant played at number 3 in that tournament, that was primarily due to the lack of a left-hander in the top-order. But with Yashasvi Jaiswal already there at the top, SKY should return to his original position, number 3, and Rishabh Pant should be back to his natural position, number 4.

Rinku Singh vs Shivam Dube?

Aside from the top 4, there can be one more change in the playing 11, and that is the inclusion of Rinku Singh ahead of Shivam Dube. Dube played at number 5 to tackle the spinners in the playing 11, but with Rishabh Pant there to play that role, Rinku should fulfil the duties of a finisher, which India need more. Thus, Hardik Pandya should play at number 5 and Rinku Singh at 6.

Coming to the all-rounders, India are likely to play three of them to give more batting depth. Thus, expect Axar Patel to play at 7 and Washington Sundar at 8. Sundar is actually the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, who has retired from the format. So, it is a brilliant opportunity for Sundar and Axar Patel to make these positions of their own.

Finally, talking about the bowling, India shall be without Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, their two main bowlers.
