IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Strongest Playing 11
Shreyas Iyer makes a comeback as Captain as we look at the strongest predicted playing 11 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2024.
The heartbeat of Kolkata, the Kolkata Knight Riders will be entering the 2024 competition with an agenda to secure their third trophy win in the Indian Premier League. It was in 2012 and 2014 that the KKR team won their first and second trophy respectively. But 10 years since, they could only challenge for the trophy once, and that was under Eoin Morgan’s leadership in 2021.
Come 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders will be continuing another important chapter with Shreyas Iyer at the helm, who arrived from Delhi Capitals in 2022. Shreyas began his KKR journey as a captain in IPL 2022. But an injury ruled him out of IPL 2023, and Nitish Rana was promoted to Captaincy. Fortunately, Shreyas Iyer is now fit and roaring to go to take KKR to their third IPL title.
But does KKR have the team to compete in the tournament? Well, KKR did make a lot of notice in the IPL 2024 Auction by purchasing Mitchell Starc as the most expensive player in the IPL 2024 for INR 24.75 Cr. So, with the squad in front of us, let’s look at the official players list and the strongest predicted playing 11 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2024.

IPL 2024 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Strongest Possible Playing 11
The biggest headache that the KKR team will face is selecting their openers. The team currently has three options to explore in the form of Venkatesh Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Jason Roy. One thing is for sure, KKR won’t play both Gurbaz and Jason Roy together owing to overseas playing combination. So, with Venkatesh Iyer now almost confirmed to open, only one between Guraz or Roy will play. But who makes the cut between the two?
Well, technically, any of these two may not be a bad option. While Jason Roy is a more potent opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is a good attacking option along with his wicket-keeping skills. If KKR play Jason Roy, they have to play KS Bharat as the wicket-keeper. But if KKR decide to Gurbaz, they can play a better finisher or an all-rounder. Overall, expect KKR to stick to Rahmanullah Gurbaz to start with.
For the middle-order, KKR are quite sorted with Nitish Rana at 3, Shreyas Iyer at 4, and Rinku Singh at 5. In terms of the finishing role, Andre Russell will most likely play at 6. For the number 7 spot, KKR can play one between KS Bharat, Anukul Roy, or Manish Pandey. This will be the player who will mostly play as an impact player. Between these three, KKR will mostly stick to playing Manish Pandey to start with.
Bowlers:
Finally, talking about the bowling, the KKR bowling will be led by Mitchell Starc, assuming he is fit for all matches, and doesn’t back out. Supporting him will be Harshit Rana and Andre Russell in the pace department. Whereas the spin bowling shall rely on the trio of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Suyash Sharma, who will play as an impact substitute. In case, KKR need a pace bowler, they can opt for Chetan Sakariya over Suyash Sharma.
