T20 World Cup 2024: Best Players 11 from Semi-final Teams
Virat Kohli, the player to watch out for, for Team India as we look at the key players 11 for all 4 semi-final teams for T20 World Cup 2024.
4 weeks of non-stop cricketing action, and we enter the penultimate lap of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Semi-finals. The tournament started with 20 teams, which was then reduced to 8 teams, and then 4 teams for the blockbuster semi-final clash. While England and South Africa are the confirmed two semi-finalists, India and Afghanistan from Group 1 are expected to qualify for the semi-final.
Group 2 is more or less sorted with South Africa and England taking rank 1 and rank 2 respectively. But Group 1 is very much live and kicking. As of June 24, no team has been eliminated. India are almost confirmed of a spot on the semi-final as well as finish the leg as the toppers. Australia are at the mercy of India, and Afghanistan need a win, and also hope Australia lose the match. Both things are very much possible.
With 3 out of 4 semi-finals teams almost confirmed, we will go with Afghanistan as the fourth opponent. Afghanistan are playing an amazing brand of cricket, and their match against Bangladesh, may not be as tough as it was against Australia. So, which players will be crucial for all four teams as they enter the semi-finals? Well let’s look at the key players 11 from T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final teams.
T20 World Cup 2024 – Key Players 11 from Best Semi-final Teams
India – Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah & Hardik Pandya
After Australia’s big defeat against Afghanistan, India are now more or less confirmed for a spot in the semi-final with a chance to even top the group. India’s NRR is pretty high at +2, and even if they lose to Australia, they should proceed through. However, if India lose by a big margin of 40+ runs, they would finish second. Also, if India lose by 40+ runs, and Afghanistan win by 80+ runs, Afghanistan and Australia go through – the scenario looks bleak for now.
Overall, as India enter the semi-finals, the role of India’s biggest match-winner, Virat Kohli will be quite important. Even as Virat has had a poor form so far, he is slowly getting into the groove, and on big occasions, Virat Kohli always stands tall in T20Is. In addition, Hardik Pandya in the all-round department, and Jasprit Bumrah as the leading pacer will play an important role in the Semi-final for India.
England – Jos Buttler, Phil Salt & Jofra Archer
After even struggling to qualify for the Super 8 due to rain washouts, England became the first team to qualify for the Semi-final stage. England began their Super 8 stage with a win against West Indies, but a loss against South Africa did dent their Super 8 chances, but a big win against USA improved their NRR drastically to help them qualify for the semi-final stage.
So, who will be the key players for England in the semi-final stage? Well, if we talk about the two most important players for England, it’s the opening duo of Jos Buttler and Phil Salt. Both have been in stunning form for England, and have also done the bulk of the scoring. Apart from these two, Jofra Archer will play a crucial role for Englan being their leading pacer.
South Africa – Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaassen & Anrich Nortje
South Africa are one team who haven’t had individual superstars so far when it comes to player performances. RSA have seen some really solid contributions from most of their players. So, be it Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Klaasen, Miller, Nortje, Rabada, or Shamsi, all have contributed decently. But overall from a semi-final perspective, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Anrich Nortje shall be the key players for South Africa.
Afghanistan – Rahmanullah Gurbaz & Rashid Khan
Talking about Afghanistan, one thing that has been a standout for them has been the performance of their openers, and their bowling department. Just like England, Afghanistan are heavily dependent on their openers. It is no surprise that without Afghanistan’s openers, their batting is extremely horrible. So, Gurbaz and Ibrahim have to fire all cylinders in the Semi-finals have Afghanistan to have a spot in the final.
With only 11 players allowed, Ibrahim Zadran shall be the 12th man in the team. Other than Ibrahim, two more players from Afghanistan, Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi shall play a very important role in the semi-final. But if we have to select only one between the two, it shall be the Captain of Afghanistan, Rashid Khan. With pitches in semi-final expected to assist the spinners, their role becomes even more crucial in the semi-finals.
In case Afghanistan don’t qualify, then for Australia, David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa shall be the most important players for the semi-finals.
