Just as India enter the final leg of the T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI and Indian Selectors are already preparing for the upcoming T20 series vs Zimbabwe. The BCCI on Monday officially announced the 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 series vs Zimbabwe. It’s a completely new squad with Shivam Dube being the only member from the active playing 11 setup.

Shivam Dube wasn’t a part of India’s squad for the Zimbabwe tour. But with pace all-rounder Nitish Reddy ruled out due to injury, BCCI named Shivam Dube as the replacement of Nitish Reddy. With Hardik not there, according to BCCI, Shivam Dube is the best pace all-rounder in the entire country. This is when all experienced players are rested, and next-gen players are being given the opportunity.

Overall, India will see Shubman Gill as their new Captain with Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya being rested. India had an option of selecting Ruturaj Gaikwad as their Captain, who had already led the Indian team with a Gold medal in the Asian Games. But the India team management felt Shubman Gill would be the true successor of the Indian team in the absence of senior players.

Team India Squad Changes

With Shubman Gill at the helm, BCCI has selected a lot of players who did well in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. Some of the names include Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande, So, other than these players, who made it to the squad? Well, let’s decide the entire Team India squad in terms of batters, wicket-keepers, All-rounders, and bowlers for the 2024 T20 series vs Zimbabwe.

With Rohit, Kohli, and SKY rested, India selected Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, and Shubman Gill, and retained Yashasvi Jaiswal for the batting department. While Sanju Samson has been retained, India got in Dhruv Jurel for Rishabh Pant in the wicket-keeper department. India revamped their all-rounder department completely. With Hardik, Axar, and Jadeja rested, India got in Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Washington Sundar, and retained Shivam Dube for the injured Nitish Reddy. 

Talking about the bowling department, India rested all their frontline bowlers who are a part of the T20 World Cup 2024. With Bumrah, Arshdeep, Siraj, Kuldeep, and Chahal not there, Team India got in Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi, and Tushar Deshpande in the squad. It’s a completely new-look bowling attack for the Indian team, signifying their focus on creating strong backups. One name that surprisingly is missing is Harshit Rana, who also deserved to be in the squad.

While some of these players are already a part of the Senior team setup, it will be interesting to see how they dominate the tour. The Zimbabwe tour starts on July 6, and the 5-match T20 series concludes on July 14.
