IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians (MI) Strongest Squad and Players List

One of the two most successful sides in the Indian Premier League history, the Mumbai Indians will be the happiest side after the IPL 2025 retention rules were announced by the BCCI. If anyone has observed the rules carefully, the BCCI has allowed teams to retain up to a maximum of 6 players including 1 uncapped player with no restriction in terms of Overseas or Indian players.

Now, teams retaining 6 Overseas players seems unrealistic given any team would at max need only 4 quality Overseas players in their playing 11, thus retaining more than 4 Overseas players would not be wise. However, teams in the IPL can actually think of retaining 6 Indian players. This is very much a possibility, but it doesn’t look like any team would think of this possibility, except for one team, and that is Mumbai Indians. 

Yes, Mumbai Indians might be the only team that may retain six players with all being Indians. It feels as if the All Indian or Overseas Players rule was designed for Mumbai Indians, but irrespective of that, they remain the biggest beneficiary of the rule. Expect Mumbai Indians to retain players with Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah retaining for 18 Cr. Whereas Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav expected to get 14 Cr. For the other two players, we can expect Ishan Kishan to get 11 Cr, and uncapped Nehal Wadhera to get 4 Cr. 

Players from Existing Squad

With 6 solid players confirmed to be retained, there are many more players for whom Mumbai Indians will go hard in the Auction. Among existing players that MI won’t be able to retain, the team will go hard after the likes of Tilak Varma, Tim David, Dewald Brevis, and Nuwan Thushara. These players played a key role for MI in IPL 2024 and before, and thus will be on their target list in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Other than these players, from the existing bunch, Mumbai Indians would also want to have the likes of Vishnu Vinod, Arjun Tendulkar, Naman Dhir, Akash Madhwal, Piyush Chawla, and Shams Mulani. So, 6 retained players + 4 solid players + 6 more players from the existing bunch is what Mumbai Indians would look to have before going after the new players in the Mega Auction. 

MI New Players for IPL 2025

Overall, as we can see, Mumbai Indians may want as many as 16 players from the existing team. So, in all, we still have 9 more spots to fill with space for 5 more Overseas players. Among the Overseas players, MI need one solid spinner and one solid pacer. Among the probables that MI can go after in the Auction, Jofra Archer as the pacer, and Adam Zampa as the spinner would add great value to the MI squad. With more than 40 Cr available in the Auction, they can surely get these players. 

Other than these 5 Overseas players, MI can look at Matthew Wade as the backup keeper, Sherfane Rutherford as the backup finisher to Tim David, and Mitchell Marsh as the key all-rounder as the replacement for either Cameron Green or Romario Shephard. Marsh can be a great value add to the MI side, and he can create a better impact than what Cameron Green did for the Mumbai Indians side.

Other than these Overseas players, among the local lads, the likes of Sarfaraz Khan in the batting department, Tanush Kotian in the all-round department, Prashant Solanki as the backup spinner, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar as the backup pacer will add great value to the side. So, that completes the dream squad list for Mumbai Indians (MI) for IPL 2025. These 25 players with Hardik Pandya at the helm can surely add another trophy to the existing MI trophy cabinet.

So, that’s about the greatest squad and players list that Mumbai Indians can build for IPL 2025. Overall, MI must find a way to retain the quartet of Hardik, Bumrah, SKY, and Rohit. If they are able to do it, half of the battle is solved. If they aren’t able to retain Rohit, then they must have an equivalent alternative in India or Overseas. Without Rohit, the likes of Prithvi Shaw or Nitish Rana, who might not be in the Auction will be a great value add. Also, MI must find a way to get back Archer in the side to have a dream pair alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
