T20 World Cup 2024 Team India Strongest Playing 11 for Super 8

Kuldeep Yadav expected to return as we look at the best playing 11 for Team India for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Another World Cup, and another scintillating start in the group stage matches for Team India. Cracking the Group Stage matches seems to be a cakewalk for Team India as they finished as the group toppers in Group A by winning 3 out of 4 games. One game has been an unfortunate washout against Canada, else they would have made it 4 out of 4.

It has been quite a unique T20 World Cup overall so far for Team India. Given all the Group Stage matches for Team India were scheduled in the USA, the role of pacers was very critical for the Indian team. With the pitch assisting pacers, India played all their 5 pacers in all the matches. While Dube hardly bowled, he was well and truly a part of the playing 11 as a batting all-rounder.

With Team India now moving to West Indies for the Super 8 matches, things won’t be the same as they were in the USA. Not only will we see more quality opposition, we will also see pitches assisting spin more. So, India are likely to bring in spinners in place of their fast bowlers. But who will face the axe? Well, let’s look at the best playing 11 for Team India for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

India Team Best Playing 11 for Super 8 Stage of T20 World Cup 2024

Openers – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has struggled big time as an opener in all the three matches he has played so far. So, will it prompt the Indian team to make any changes to their playing 11? Well, the pitches in New York have been the toughest for the batters. With the sample size being less, and West Indies offering better batting conditions, the Indian team might give a couple of games more to the Kohli-Rohit duo before making any changes to the team.

Middle-order – Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant

With Rohit and Kohli expected to open once again in the Super 8 clash with the first match being set against Afghanistan, Rishabh Pant should continue to donn his new role at the number 3 position. Pant has been stunning as a batter in all three matches he has played so far. Two of these knocks have been match-winning ones where he bailed his team out of danger. In addition, Pant’s keeping has been top-notch with great contribution in all three matches.

The form of Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube was a big concern for the Indian team in the initial couple of matches. But that was put to rest in the match against USA as the duo remained unbeaten while chasing a modest total on a tough batting wicket. The role of Shivam Dube now becomes even more important in West Indies with slightly better batting conditions, and spinners being used more. This is exactly what Dube was selected for, and the Indian team should persist with him in Super 8 matches.

All-rounders – Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel & Ravindra Jadeja

Coming to the All-rounders, the Indian team shouldn’t make any changes in the playing 11, so the trio of Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel should continue to strengthen the lower-order, and add good variety in the bowling department. Also, with pitches assisting spinners, the role of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja becomes even more crucial going forward.

Bowlers – Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh

Finally, talking about the primary bowling, this is where we should see a big change with India opting for Kuldeep Yadav ahead of Mohammed Siraj. In the most pace-friendly conditions, Siraj has been the least effective pacer for the Indian team. So, with the pitch assisting spinners in West Indies, it makes more sense to have a wicket-taking option in the form of Kuldeep ahead of Siraj.
