The BCCI and the Indian team are currently busy playing and organizing the biggest T20 league in the World, the Indian Premier League. Jasprit Bumrah is not only India’s but also the World’s best bowler. Whereas there is no other spinner as good as Kuldeep Yadav in India currently. Arshdeep Singh’s name may be slightly controversial, but for the second pacer slot, he seems the best bet.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj & Yuzvendra Chahal

Now, talking about the best remaining five players, we have Yashasvi Jaiswal as the fifth batter, KL Rahul as the best backup wicket-keeper, Axar Patel as the best backup all-rounder, Mohammed Siraj as the best backup pacer, and Yuzvendra Chahal as the best backup spinner. While these five look good for a place in the World Cup squad, there are Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Avesh Khan, and Ravi Bishnoi as the other backup options.

Overall, Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Shubman Gill be the key battle for the fifth batter. Before IPL 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the leading contender for the opening slot. But seeing the current form of Yashasvi Jaiswal in IPL 2024, it seems India might be thinking twice before selecting him. But honestly, the format is such that sometimes it can get on your nerves. That takes away nothing from Jaiswal’s quality, and Rohit and Rahul should persist with Jaiswal above Gill.

Key Backup Player Battles

The second big debate point shall be the choice of backup wicket-keeper. Except for Pant, who seems a sure shot, there are options in abundance for the Indian team. If we talk about the options, there’s KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Dinesh Karthik, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and even MS Dhoni if we go by Rohit Sharma’s words. But of these many options, India might go with the tried and tested KL Rahul, although Sanju Samson deserves it more than anyone.

Another debatable point shall be the selection of the second spinner in the squad. Before IPL 2024, Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav were the leading spinners in the Indian team. But seeing the current form of Bishnoi, it looks unlikely he might get a go. Instead, India may finally look at Yuzvendra Chahal to give him a one-and-only chance in the T20 World Cup 2024. Of course, Yuzi isn’t a mug anyway, and can finally get a well-deserved chance in the World Cup squad.

For the third pacer, there are again many options for Team India, but honestly, none of them look good enough to be a part of the Indian team. Among the options, there’s Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, T. Natarajan, Mohit Sharma, and even Khaleel Ahmed. None of them inspire confidence to be a part of the Indian team, but if there is one name that India may bank on looking at the history, it will be Mohammed Siraj.
