IPL 2025 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Team New Best Playing XI
Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out in our new best playing 11 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
15 years 5 trophies – that’s the kind of success, the Chennai Super Kings team has had in the Indian Premier League. But come 2025, the same CSK team is struggling to compete. The CSK team don’t play blistering cricket like SRH or PBKS, but they have always believed in playing according to the situation and using traditional shots over unconventional ones. The team has had tremendous success while playing with the same template, but the same thought process is turning into their enemy, and given the modern demand of playing aggressive in the T20 format, they haven’t quite able to adapt.
One of the main reasons for the team to play traditional cricket was home matches. The pitches in Chennai have usually been on the slower side, and that had usually helped the team to adapt quicker than any other team at this venue. This is also the reason CSK have always had a superior home record – best than any team out there. But this same home advantage has not been the case this time as even the home matches are turning into an high-scoring affair. This is the reason they have already lost three matches at home – their worst record at home.
While CSK are not really out of the competition as yet with just 2 wins from 7 games, the team is also already thinking of planning future. To do that, CSK have roped-in two aggressive and young batters, Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre. CSK is a process-oriented team, and more than the result, they believe in backing their players, and trusting their decision-making. Sometimes you get result with this thought process, and sometimes you don’t. But in case of Chennai Super Kings, winning 6 out of 15 trophies is no joke.

The CSK team is currently without their leader and Captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad. While Ruturaj’s absence has been a dent on their team combination already. the poor form of a few batters has been another sign of worry. The CSK team seldom makes changes in their lineup frequently, but they have done it this year with almost a change or two in each match they have played so far. This also shows that CSK are still struggling to get their combination right, and new players are yet to inspire confidence in the team management.
Having said that, CSK won their last match against LSG, and that will give more confidence to the team management. While ideally, CSK should continue the winning combination, the inclusion of Dewald Brevis in the team does change a few things in the team. With Dewald in, the team should play him in the top-order, and one from Vijay Shankar or Rahul Tripathi should make way for him. Given Tripathi’s struggle this season, he should be dropped first. Shankar may not be the most ideal batter, but can be given a few more games in the side with no good alternative available.
However, if Dewald Brevis is played, CSK will have to drop Jamie Overton. Overton was included in the team as a hard-hitting batter down the order. But with overseas players’ restriction, Jamie will have to unfortunately sit out, and in his place, CSK will no other option than to play Ravichandran Ashwin. The CSK team can also think of playing Shreyas Gopal in this position as he will be a good wrist spin option in the side.

So, that’s about the new best playing 11 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025. Overall, this may not be the strongest playing 11 as compare to other teams, but it is a beginning of building a good core for future. In the process, if CSK manage to get the best out of these 11 players, they can certainly be more competitive in the tournament. Having said that, all is not lost for the CSK team, and they can still a lot of matches in the second half of the tournament.
