IPL 2024: Ranking Each Team Basis Best Overseas Players
Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, the standouts as we look at the ranking of each team basis their best Overseas players for IPL 2024.
4 is the magic number when it comes to the Overseas players in the Indian Premier League. Every team is allowed to play a maximum of four Overseas players in their playing 11 with another four among the backups. Given the Demand and Supply gap when it comes to Overseas players, usually all teams get good or best Overseas players in their side.
It is no doubt that Overseas players play a huge role in the team’s success. While some teams like MI and CSK are Indian players centric, there are other teams like the PBKS and SRH, that are mostly dependent on their Overseas players. But which team has the best-performing Overseas players in IPL 2024? Well, let’s look at the ranking of each team when it comes to their Overseas players in IPL 2024. For ease of our analysis, we will only look at the best four Overseas players for each team.
Mumbai Indians
At number 10, we have the Mumbai Indians team. It is expected from the team that invests heavily in the Indian players. When you have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Ishan Kishan among the Indian players, your Overseas players will take a hit in terms of quality. MI currently have only Tim David as the quality Overseas option. Other than him, the likes of Coetzee, Nabi, and Shephard are handy Overseas options.
Top Four Overseas Players: Tim David, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Nabi & Romario Shephard
Chennai Super Kings
Number 9 should surprise you to see Chennai Super Kings, but CSK are similar to MI when comes to investing more in Indian talent. With Devon Conway not there currently, the ranking anyway takes a beating. Without Conway, CSK have Pathirana and Mustafizur as their best Overseas players. These two are currently holding the fort for CSK, and the likes of Mitchell and Rachin are yet to make a significant impact in the tournament.
Top Four Overseas Players: Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman, Daryl Mitchell & Rachin Ravindra
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
At number 8, we have the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team. There is no doubt on the quality of the RCB team when it comes to Overseas players. The team has some of the biggest names when it comes to Overseas players with the likes of Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Cameron Green. But barring Faf on a few occasions, the other three have hardly contributed with the bat and ball.
Top Four Overseas Players: Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Reece Topley & Cameron Green
Delhi Capitals
Number 7 sees Delhi Capitals, who also have few of the biggest names when it comes to Overseas players, but have hardly performed well in the series so far. Tristan Stubbs has been a force for Delhi Capitals this season, and David Warner has played a few decent cameos. But Anrich Nortje and Mitchell Marsh have been a disappointment, and that’s where the trouble lies for Delhi Capitals.
Top Four Overseas Players: Anrich Nortje, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh & Tristan Stubbs
Rajasthan Royals
At number 6, we have the Rajasthan Royals team with Trent Boult and Jos Buttler being their standout Overseas players for them so far. Both Boult and Buttler have been really good for RR this season, but the other two, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell are yet to contribute significantly with the bat and ball. This is the reason RR find themselves at the number 6 position.
Top Four Overseas Players: Trent Boult, Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer & Rovman Powell
Gujarat Titans
At number 5, we have the Gujarat Titans team with Rashid Khan being the benchmark spinner in their squad. With Rashid Khan there, and Noor Ahmad also contributing well with the ball, the spin twins have been really good when bowled in tandem. In addition, GT have David Miller, who has mostly been out due to injury, but is one of the best finishers going around. Finally, the fourth Overseas player, Spencer Johnson felt below average with the performance this season.
Top Four Overseas Players: Rashid Khan, David Miller, Noor Ahmad & Spencer Johnson
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Number 4 sees Sunrisers Hyderabad, and without a doubt, they have a strong bunch of Overseas players in IPL 2024. SRH are unlike MI and CSK as they invest more in Overseas players. While SRH have eight quality Overseas players, they can only afford to play four. But they do have like-for-like backups for those four. SRH currently have Head, Klaasen, and Markram as their best Overseas players. While Cummins is their Captain, he isn’t a force to reckon with in T20s.
Top Four Overseas Players: Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, Travis Head & Pat Cummins
Lucknow Super Giants
At number 3, we have the Lucknow Super Giants with four strong Overseas players in their side. Quinton de Kock, Stoinis, Pooran, and Naveen are all great Overseas players to have in any team. They are also having a really great time this time around with all four contributing well in IPL 2024. But LSG are struggling big time in the bowling department, and unfortunately, they don’t have quality names in that department to bail them out.
Top Four Overseas Players for LSG: Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Quinton de Kock & Naveen Ul-Haq
Punjab Kings
At number 2, we have the Punjab Kings, who have some amazing bunch of overseas players. On paper, Sam Curran, Livingstone, Rabada, and Bairstow are strong names to have for any team. All are solid in their own domain and except Bairstow, the other three have contributed quite well for PBKS. However, Bairstow is no mug, and with time, we should see Bairstow coming good too if PBSK persist with him.
Top Four Overseas Players: Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran & Jonny Bairstow
Kolkata Knight Riders
Finally, at numero uno, we have the Kolkata Knight Riders team, who are seeing stunning contributions from three of their four Overseas players in IPL 2024. KKR are seeing some really stunning performances from Russell, Narine, and Salt. In fact, Narine has been the MVP so far this season, and Salt and Russell have been equally impressive. The only issue has been the form of Starc, who with all the qualities has looked below-average this season.
Top Four Overseas Players: Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine & Phil Salt
So, that’s about the best Overseas players ranking for all 10 teams for IPL 2024.
