IPL 2025 Uncapped Retained Players Best List for All 10 Teams

MS Dhoni, the most experienced of the lot in our final best retained uncapped players list for all 10 teams for IPL 2025.

When the IPL 2025 retention rules were announced, one of the biggest changes that was easily visible was the addition of the new uncapped player rule. As a welcome change, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that teams will be able to retain up to two uncapped players for a purse deduction of 4 Cr for each. What’s more, any player who hasn’t played for India for more than 5 years will also be considered an uncapped player.

The welcome changes may have kind of altered the think-tank a lot as teams, that will now be forced to think of retaining players aside from their regular capped players. It is also no problem for the management as every team does have at least one uncapped that has been either regular or exceptional for them over the years. Thus, every team should retain at least one uncapped player with a price deduction of just 4 Cr. 

So, if we observe the squad list of each team, we have 10 uncapped players from 10 franchises with one team possibly retaining two uncapped players. So, overall, we are looking at 11 uncapped players that will be retained for IPL 2025. Coincidentally, these 11 players also form a strong playing 11 with 1 player each from 9 teams, and 2 uncapped players from Punjab Kings. So, as we look at the full list of best retained uncapped players ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, we will analyze them in the article according to their role.  

IPL 2025 Best Uncapped Retained Players List for Each Team

Starting with the two best uncapped openers that shall be retained for IPL 2025, we are looking at two young wicket-keepers for their respective franchises. First, there’s Prabsimran Singh from Punjab Kings, and second, there’s Abhishek Porel from Delhi Capitals. While Abhishek did pretty well for DC last year, Prabsimran Singh has been donning his opener role beautifully for Punjab Kings for a few years now. 

Second, talking about the middle-order, we are looking at three solid uncapped players. At number 3, we look at Ayush Badoni from LSG. For number 4, we have Nehal Wadhera from Mumbai Indians, and at number 5, we are looking at Shashank Singh from Punjab Kings. Aside from Shashank Singh, who came into the scenes last year, and did well for PBKS, Wadhera and Ayush have been doing pretty well for a couple of years while playing for their respective franchise. 

Finishers – MS Dhoni & Ayush Badoni

Talking about finisher uncapped players who will be retained, we are looking at two solid options, MS Dhoni from CSK, and Abdul Samad from SRH. The newly designed uncapped player rule allows CSK to retain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player, and that’s a great welcome change for CSK, who desperately wanted to retain MS Dhoni. Alongside Dhoni, SRH will see Abdul Samad as their retained uncapped player. Samad has been a good finisher for SRH, and even in 2024, he played many useful cameos. 

Coming to bowlers, we are looking at four solid pacers who will be retained as uncapped players for IPL 2025. Among the topmost pacer, Harshit Rana from KKR takes the cherry. Alongside him, we are looking at Gujarat Titans retaining Mohit Sharma, RCB retaining Yash Dayal, and Rajasthan Royals retaining Sandeep Sharma. While Sandeep has an alternative in the form of Tanush Kotian, the other three will get retained without any debate.

So, that’s about the best retained uncapped players 11 ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction. While these 11 will be a priority when it comes to retention, there are other names who if not retained, will also be on the Team’s radar. So, we have Sameer Rizvi from CSK, Rasikh Dar from DC, Rahul Tewatia from GT, Ramandeep Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi from KKR, Mohsin Khan from LSG, Akash Madhwal from MI, Ashutosh Sharma from PBKS, Tanush Kotian from RR, Mahipal Lomror from RCB, and Anmolpreet Singh from SRH.
