IPL 2025 Retained Players Confirmed List for All 10 Teams

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to trade out as we look at the confirmed retained players list for all 10 teams for IPL 2025.

With the Indian team preparing for the Sri Lanka ODI and T20 series under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, one topic that is getting a lot of traction currently is the IPL 2025 retentions. A lot of activity is happening in this space, and we are getting to hear a lot of probabilities in terms of the players that each team would like to release and retain ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Now, there is no confirmed news from BCCI on the possible retention rules. But with this being a Mega Auction, there would not be a lot of possible retention options being given to each team. If we recall, in IPL 2022, each team was given the option to retain 2 Indian + 2 Overseas or 3 Indian + 1 Overseas player options. We won’t get into the salary cap breakup, but in general, we should see a similar retention trend for 2025 as well.

So, with a lot of speculations, rumours, and reports circulating, how about we take a look at the confirmed retained players list that each team is likely to retain for IPL 2025? Now, what we will look at in this article is the list of only those players whom each team will not let go. This is not an exhaustive list, so there can be players more than these too which teams will retain. Alright then, let’s look at it.

IPL 2025 Confirmed Retained Players List for Each Team

Chennai Super Kings

  1. Ravindra Jadeja
  2. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Starting with Chennai Super Kings, the team will definitely retain at least two players, and those are Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad. These two are the backbone of CSK, and will be with the team for a few years to come. But other than these two, there is a big question on MS Dhoni’s availability. If MS Dhoni, is available, he gets retained without a doubt. But if not, he will retire with grace. Other than these three, Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana seem the next possible bet for retained players.

Delhi Capitals

  1. Rishabh Pant
  2. Axar Patel
  3. Kuldeep Yadav

There are discussions surrounding Rishabh Pant’s possible move to Chennai Super Kings. Honestly, these are baseless, and Rishabh Pant will never leave his home, Delhi Capitals for any reason. He is the leader of the pack, and he also made a stunning comeback in the 2024 IPL. So, there is no reason as to why he would like to move to CSK, and either play under Ruturaj, or take his captaincy. With Pant as one confirmed retention, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shall be the other two retentions. Other than these three, one of Jake McGurk, Mitchell Marsh, or Tristan Stubbs shall be retained.

Gujarat Titans

  1. Shubman Gill
  2. Rashid Khan
  3. Mohammed Shami
  4. Sai Sudharsan

Coming to Gujarat Titans, there are pretty straightforward retentions for them without even discussing on it. Shubman Gill should continue to lead the team with Rashid Khan as his deputy. Other than these two, the Gujarat Titans team should retain Mohammed Shami, their best pacer, and Sai Sudharsan, their best-emerging talent.

Kolkata Knight Riders

  1. Shreyas Iyer
  2. Sunil Narine
  3. Andre Russell
  4. Rinku Singh

Similar to Gujarat Titans, KKR also have pretty straightforward player retentions. The overseas duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell still have a lot of gas in them, so they should continue to be on the retention list. Other than these two, Shreyas Iyer, their Captain and leader along with Rinku Singh should be the four confirmed names on the table for IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants

  1. Nicholas Pooran
  2. Mayank Yadav

The biggest question for Lucknow Super Giants is the possible transfer of KL Rahul to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This is the biggest rumour circulating in the market, and this doesn’t seem illogical at all. KL Rahul made a name for himself in Karnataka and while playing for RCB. There is a big possibility of him going back to RCB, and leading the side with Faf du Plessis not there. Moreover, he was also ill-treated in LSG, which could prompt him to take this decision. So, with KL Rahul not there, Nicholas Pooran and Mayank Yadav should be the two confirmed retentions for LSG. The team can also think of retaining Ravi Bishnoi and Quinton de Kock.

Mumbai Indians

  1. Hardik Pandya
  2. Ishan Kishan

Mumbai Indians seem to be in disarray at the moment with the possibility of Big 3, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and even Jasprit Bumrah leaving the team. Ever since Hardik was made the Captain of the side, there has been a disconnect in terms of the equation of these 3 players with him and MI. It looks unlikely any of them would like to get retained, and with these three not there, Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan seem to be the two best players to get retained for MI for IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings

  1. Shashank Singh

Punjab Kings are one team that can go clean slate for IPL 2025. There is literally no good player who deserves to be retained at the highest price bracket. However, as we know, uncapped players are usually given less amount when it comes to retentions, it seems Shashank Singh may fall in that category, and this should be the only player to get retained for IPL 2025.

Rajasthan Royals

  1. Sanju Samson
  2. Jos Buttler
  3. Yashasvi Jaiswal
  4. Riyan Parag

Talking about Rajasthan Royals, their retentions are pretty straight forward too. Sanju Samson should get retained under the highest bracket with Jos Buttler, Yashasi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag as the other three retentions. Interestingly, Sanju, Jos, and Jaiswal were also the retentions for RR in 2022, and these three along with Riyan shall be the retentions for IPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

  1. KL Rahul (Trade Expected)
  2. Virat Kohli
  3. Glenn Maxwell
  4. Mohammed Siraj

With KL Rahul move likely to RCB, he should get retained under the highest price bracket. Other than KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj should also be the two confirmed retentions for RCB. Other than these three Indian players, if there is one foreign player that deserves to get retained, it is Glenn Maxwell. Even though Maxwell had a below-par outing in 2024, the quality is still top-notch for Maxi, and thus he deserves the retention.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

  1. Heinrich Klaasen
  2. Abhishek Sharma

Finally, talking about SRH, there are multiple players who are likely to get retained. So, If we talk about two confirmed options, those are Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma. Both did extremely well in IPL 2024, and deserve the retentions more than anyone else. Other than these two, SRH have Nitish Reddy, and one of Travis Head or Pat Cummins as the possible retention option.
