IPL 2025 All 10 Teams Ranking for Their Best Openers
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the standout in our final ranking of the best openers of all 10 teams for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Openers are the lifeline of any team in T20 cricket. These are the players who face the first heat in probably the most difficult phase for any batter, the powerplay. The first few overs of the match is when the ball swings a lot, and that can cause trouble to the batters, thus giving more chances to the bowlers. That’s why the presence of quality openers in the side is very important for any team in T20 cricket.
The current edition of the Indian Premier League, IPL 2025 will once again witness the presence of quality openers in each team. Almost every team looks solid on paper in terms of their top 2 first-choice openers. So, how about we analyze the best two openers of each team basis their performance in IPL and at the International stage, and find out the ranking of all 10 Teams basis their best openers for IPL 2025?
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Openers Ranking for All 10 Teams
#10: Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Prabsimran Singh & Marcus Stoinis
At number 10, we have Punjab Kings, who are the only team that doesn’t have a proper second all-rounder in the side. In fact, their first-choice primary opener itself is of decent quality. At present Prabsimran Singh and Marcus Stoinis remain their best opening combination. In case they don’t wish to opt for Marcus Stonis, they can look at Josh Inglis. But in all, the opening combination is relatively worst among all 10 teams for IPL 2025.
#9: Lucknow Super Giants
Aiden Markram & Mitchell Marsh
Coming to number 9, we have the Overseas opening duo of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Now, quality-wise, Markram and Marsh are good options to have as openers. Not only are these two openers experienced but they are also quite aggressive in their approach. However, the only thing that is lacking there is IPL performance. Both Markram and Marsh haven’t made a significant impact in the IPL as their brand value suggests.
#8: Mumbai Indians (MI)
Rohit Sharma & Will Jacks
Number 8 sees Mumbai Indians, and there should not be much debate on this too. While Will Jacks is relatively new in the IPL world, Rohit has never been a top-notch IPL player himself. While there is no doubt in terms of quality, for Rohit, the quality hasn’t come out good. Whereas for Jacks, he is yet to prove his mettle in the Indian Premier League. Other than these, MI can also look at Ryan Rickleton as the backup opener.
#7: Delhi Capitals
KL Rahul & Jake Fraser-McGurk
Coming to number 7, we have the fire and ice combination of KL Rahul and Jake Fraser-McGurk from Delhi Capitals. Now, there is no doubt in terms of quality and performance for KL Rahul, it is the inexperience of Jake Fraser-McGurk that can create some issues in the Delhi camp. However, there is no dearth of quality here, and it is only about converting that quality into performance.
#6: Kolkata Knight Riders
Sunil Narine & Quinton de Kock
At number 6, we have the left-handed Overseas opening duo of Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock. It is a brilliant opening combination to have, and both have been fairly successful in the IPL. However, the only issue is which Narine turns up this year. Narine has been amazing as an opener with GG in the leadership team. But if GG isn’t there, Narine hasn’t been quite successful as an opener. So, it will be interesting to see how de Kock and Sunil perform this IPL.
#5: Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway
Coming to number 5, we are looking at Chennai Super Kings, who have a steady combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Technically, both are solid openers to have for any team. However, not playing IPL 2024 have deducted points for Conway, who otherwise would have had a better ranking than other teams. Nevertheless, if these two can repeat the 2023 performance, CSK can go a long way in the tournament.
#4: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Travis Head & Abhishek Sharma
At number 4, we have the most dangerous batting pair currently in the tournament, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. The pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head took the Indian Premier League by storm last year with some aggressive strokeplay. Not only were these two belligerent but also consistent with performance. With competition so heavy, these two will once again have to lead the team from the start, and provide positive starts.
#3: Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Yashasvi Jaiswal & Sanju Samson
At number 3 we not only have the best opening pair for Rajasthan Royals, but also probably the projected opening pair for the Indian team. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson are a few of the most attacking and consistent batters in the Indian Premier League currently. Both have been performing consistently in the IPL as we as on the International stage. Given their consistent performances, they are ranked third in the list of best openers for IPL 2025.
#2: Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill & Jos Buttler
At number 2, we have the opening pair of Jos Buttler and Shubman Gill, who are only just ahead of the opening paid of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Both Buttler and Gill have perfectly adapted their batting in the Indian Premier League, and they have also been pretty successful with their performances. If Buttler can continue his A-grade batting in the IPL, these two can create havoc for the opposition in IPL 2025.
#1: Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Virat Kohli & Phil Salt
Finally, for the numero spot, we have the opening pair of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. It may be slightly debatable in terms of ranking these openers number 1, but in relative terms, Kohli, who has been back to his best in the IPL, and Phil Salt, who currently ranks in the top 3 openers in the world form a beautiful batting together. It won’t be a surprise to see these two among the top 5 run-getters in IPL 2025.
So, that’s about the list of the complete ranking of all 10 teams basis their best openers for IPL 2025.
